Hosted trips, experiences and travel updates

Last updated: 13 October 2026

Who is responsible for your information?

James A Jefferson, known publicly as James Jefferson and operating as a sole trader trading as Journeys by JJ, is the data controller for this mailing list.

This notice covers subscriptions and related communications about hosted trips and experiences promoted under my own name and through Journeys by JJ.

For privacy questions, to exercise your rights or to withdraw permission to receive updates, email hello@jamesajefferson.com.

For Journeys by JJ travel enquiries and bookings, email journeysbyjj@ite.travel.

What information do I collect?

When you sign up, I collect:

  • Your first and last name.
  • Your email address.
  • Your WhatsApp number, if you choose to provide it.
  • Your contact preferences.
  • Evidence of your consent, including your submission date and the wording you agreed to.

If you contact me, I also collect the information you share and may retain relevant correspondence.

How do I use your information?

I use your name to identify you, distinguish between contacts with the same first name and personalise communications.

With your consent, I send marketing emails about hosted trips and experiences, including announcements, availability, offers and related travel ideas and inspiration.

If you choose to provide your optional WhatsApp number and give consent, I also send WhatsApp updates about hosted trips and experiences, including availability and offers.

Providing your number does not give permission for marketing calls or SMS messages.

I use information you provide when contacting me to answer your questions and manage your requests.

I also maintain limited consent and unsubscribe records to respect your preferences, prevent unwanted contact and demonstrate compliance with data protection requirements.

What are my lawful bases?

I rely on your consent to send marketing emails and optional WhatsApp marketing messages.

For responding to general questions, maintaining consent records and respecting unsubscribe requests, I rely on my legitimate interests in communicating with people who contact me, managing subscriptions accurately and demonstrating compliance.

Where an enquiry involves taking steps at your request towards a booking or service agreement, the relevant lawful basis may be taking steps before entering into a contract.

Where necessary, I may also process information to comply with a legal obligation.

Do you have to provide your information?

Signing up is voluntary and is not a condition of enquiring about or booking a trip.

First name, last name, email address and email permission are required to complete the subscription form.

Your WhatsApp number is optional. Leaving it blank does not affect your email subscription.

You can withdraw permission for either channel independently.

Who receives your information?

I use Tally to collect and store subscription form responses. Tally and its authorised service providers process information to provide that service.

I also use email and secure storage services to manage correspondence and subscription records.

If you choose WhatsApp updates, your number and relevant communications are processed through WhatsApp. WhatsApp also processes information for its own purposes under its UK privacy policy.

I do not sell your information or share it with other businesses for their own independent marketing.

I may disclose limited information where required by law, or where necessary to obtain professional advice or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Before introducing an email-marketing platform or another service that changes how subscription information is processed, I will update this notice with the relevant provider and processing information.

International transfers

Tally states that form response data is stored in Europe. Where information is transferred to countries recognised as providing adequate protection under UK data protection law, those transfers can rely on the relevant UK adequacy arrangements.

WhatsApp operates internationally and may process information outside the UK. Its UK privacy policy explains its international processing and transfer arrangements.

Other service providers may also process information internationally. Where my use of a provider involves a restricted international transfer, I must ensure an appropriate transfer arrangement is in place, such as applicable adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards, with any further measures required.

You can contact hello@jamesajefferson.com for information about the arrangements relevant to your information and how to obtain details of applicable safeguards.

How long do I keep your information?

I keep your subscription information while you remain subscribed and I continue operating the mailing list. I review records at least annually and remove information that is no longer needed.

If you withdraw WhatsApp permission, I remove your number from active WhatsApp marketing records unless it is separately needed for an enquiry, booking or another lawful purpose.

If you unsubscribe, I stop the relevant marketing. I retain a limited suppression record, such as your email address or phone number and opt-out status, for as long as necessary to prevent you being accidentally contacted again.

I retain consent evidence and relevant correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to demonstrate compliance, handle requests or resolve complaints. When deciding this, I consider the purpose of the record, any unresolved matter and applicable legal requirements.

Information retained for a separate enquiry or booking is subject to the privacy information applicable to that activity.

How can you stop receiving updates?

  • Email: use the unsubscribe option in a marketing email.
  • WhatsApp: reply “STOP”.
  • Either channel or all marketing: email hello@jamesajefferson.com.

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

Stopping marketing does not prevent necessary communications about an existing enquiry or booking.

Your data protection rights

You can object to direct marketing at any time.

Depending on the circumstances, you can also ask me to:

  • Provide access to your personal information.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Delete your information.
  • Restrict how your information is used.
  • Provide a portable copy of certain information.
  • Stop processing based on legitimate interests.

These rights are subject to the conditions and exceptions in data protection law.

To make a request, email hello@jamesajefferson.com. I may need reasonable information to verify your identity before responding.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Automated decisions

I do not use subscription information to make solely automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Scope and changes to this notice

This notice covers the mailing list and related communications. It does not replace privacy information about travel bookings, payments, website cookies or other separate services.

I will update this page if the way I use your subscription information changes. Where required, I will bring significant changes to your attention and obtain fresh consent before using your information for a new purpose that requires it.
